Celebrated Landscape Photographer Jeff Mitchum Opens Fine Art Gallery at La Plaza La Jolla
Update: Gallery Now Closed
La Plaza La Jolla, the luxury open-air shopping destination located in the village of La Jolla, California, is pleased to announce that local resident and renowned landscape photographer Jeff Mitchum, regarded as the ‘Ansel Adams of color,’ has opened his namesake fine art gallery within the center. Mitchum’s galleries at Bellagio and MGM Grand in Las Vegas are considered some of the finest in the world, and now he brings his unique vision to La Plaza La Jolla. Both community and international collectors can enjoy some of the most admired artwork known today – the acclaimed fine art photography of San Diego’s own Jeff Mitchum.
Mitchum’s signature panoramic photography captures nature’s rare beauty and dramatic landscapes, via his distinct perspective, composition and signature use of natural light. The contemporary La Jolla gallery will showcase approximately 60 fine art prints by not only Mitchum but also Greg Essayan and Aubra Franklin – with works rotated quarterly. Additionally, several pieces of glass artwork by Markian Olynyk will be on display as well as a luxurious line of eco-furniture.
The gallery will also offer original paintings and serigraphs by the world-famous artist and multi-talented Academy Award-winner, Sir Anthony Hopkins, whose permanent art exhibition in Las Vegas was announced in 2015. Mitchum recognizes Hopkins as a contemporary painter and admires his vibrant vision and creative freedom, and is now thrilled to bring his work to Jeff Mitchum Galleries, La Jolla.
“La Jolla is home to some of the finest art galleries in Southern California,” says Jon Williams, CEO of Davlyn Investments, the developer behind La Plaza La Jolla. “Jeff Mitchum Galleries is an incredible addition to both the fine art community and La Plaza La Jolla. As one of the foremost photographers of our time, Jeff’s unparalleled photography is sure to be enjoyed by both La Jolla’s residents and visitors.”
An award-winning photographer, Mitchum once shot for National Geographic and his original fine art photography has been displayed in the Smithsonian Institute, the world’s largest museum and research complex, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. He has also been featured in several national and international publications such as USA Today, Photo Professional and Rangefinder Magazines. Most recently, Mitchum has been focused on creating commissioned and exclusive, rare works of art for his collectors.
“I’ve been fortunate to call San Diego home since I was a kid and that blessing allowed me to grow up in the finest of light. What a truly exciting time for myself and family to have a gallery in our own community; a place with gorgeous locations that I am proud to be the first to capture and are now seen throughout the world in a variety of creative expressions,” says Mitchum. “The La Jolla gallery will not only have ambience, but a body of work that is meaningful and the product of willful intent and patience. The result being great images that embrace both soul and visual light.”
Jeff Mitchum Galleries, La Jolla will open at street level, facing Girard Avenue and will soon be hosting regular events. The 2,724 square-foot space features a simple and contemporary design with polished concrete and dark grey walls to create a complementary environment for Mitchum’s vivid photography.
The La Jolla gallery is open seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. For more information about Jeff Mitchum Galleries, please visit jeffmitchumgalleries.com.
