ALL JEFF MITCHUM IMAGES
In a moment of awe and wonder, a scene from heaven slowly developed with each wisp of upward wind. Great thunderstorms are a combination of rushing, heat-sculpting clouds that go into rare formations to never be seen again and, like snowflakes, each has its own personality and uniqueness. When you get these marvelous images you need the perfect compliment of foreground and artistry. Racing up and down each road and running out and over the mangrove jetties was proving fruitless for a composition. Most locations were too low to the water to embrace the reflection and depth of this amazing storm system. Other locations were too cluttered. Finally, I came around a turn with the light now dangerously close to changing before I could begin my work, I found the place. Water, mangroves, a couple of rocks that may be the only ones in all of Florida, and one happy artist. I chose the platform of my SUV to shoot from. To maximize the height of angle, I placed my Pelican case on top to stand on and elevated my tripod to max height. The timing could not have been better as the light transformed this image into a vision of being taken into heaven!
